Bio:
Dr. Alastair K. Daniel is a senior lecturer in education at University of Roehampton, London. For twelve years, prior to entering fulltime work in higher education, he divided his time between university lecturing and storytelling in schools in the UK and Belgium. Since graduating as a teacher of mathematics in 1985, Alastair has gained experience in every phase of education both as teacher and storyteller, and has facilitated sessions for teachers both at home and abroad. Alastair continues to write and research in the field of narrative pedagogy, and his book, Storytelling across the Primary Curriculum was published in 2012.

In this practical session, Alastair will lead participants in an exploration of role that oral storytelling plays in language and communication. The session will consider the skills base of oral storytelling, as well as its cultural context and role in developing a critical approach to communication.
